Kelowna RCMP are still looking for a suspect involved in a crash and police chase Tuesday night. The incident began as a traffic collision at the intersection of Springfield Road and Durnin Road, where an officer saw a green hatchback collide with an empty school bus. “The driver of the green hatchback was instructed by the RCMP officer to pull his vehicle over to the side of the road. Instead, the driver fled westbound at a high rate of speed,” said Const. Mike Della-Paolera. The bus driver was not injured and a short time later the green hatchback was spotted by police officers, who attempted to impound the vehicle. A female passenger exited the vehicle at that time. The green hatchback managed to escape, hitting a police vehicle as well as the female passenger who had jumped out of the car. The woman was not injured and was initially arrested but later released. RCMP located the green hatchback in the 2000 Block of Loseth Road after witnesses observed a single male occupant get out of the car and run southeast into the woods near Kirschner Mountain. Multiple officers, assisted by the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, RCMP Air Services and Police Dog Services responded, but unfortunately, the man was not located. “We take these incidents extremely seriously and would like to assure the public that we will work diligently to identify the driver in order to hold him accountable for his actions,” said Sergeant Mark Booth of the Kelowna RCMP Traffic Division. RCMP determined that the license plate on the green hatchback is not the correct one for the vehicle. The vehicle was impounded and the investigation is ongoing. The RCMP is asking for the public’s help. If anyone has seen any of these and or has dash cam footage, contact the RCMP at (250) 762-3300.
