Photo: DriveBC UPDATE 2:56 p.m. Golden RCMP and BC Highway Patrol are investigating a collision near Golden between a logging truck and an SUV that claimed the life of one driver and sent the other to the hospital by ambulance. The collision occurred shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday on Highway 1 near Emerald Lake Rd. at Field, about 45 miles west of Golden, BC The first evidence gathered at the scene shows that the SUV driver was traveling east when he crossed the center line and collided head-on with a logging truck coming from the opposite direction. The driver of the logging truck was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the driver of the SUV died on the spot. “Investigators found that there was no crime,” said Cpl. Alex Bérubé, Representative of the BC RCMP. Highway 1 is now open after being closed for just over five hours on Wednesday morning. ORIGINAL 8:26 a.m. The TransCanada motorway is closed in both directions due to a vehicle accident between Golden Donald Upper Rd. and the Field visitor access Rd., 53.5 km. An evaluation is made but there is no estimated reopening time. The only detour available is on Highway 95 around Radium. The next scheduled update is not until 10:30 a.m.
