David Richard Maureen, who pleaded guilty Wednesday, was sentenced to three years behind bars. The 28-year-old was charged with aggravated assault earlier this year after a man attacked a cafeteria at the Harbor Center. Police said at the time that the knife on January 22 was “completely unannounced”. The victim was repeatedly stabbed in the back and shoulder in the incident recorded by the surveillance camera of the restaurant. Maureen was soon identified as a suspect, which police attributed to a series of tips that emerged from the release of the surveillance video. He has been in custody ever since. At the time of his arrest, police said the motives were unclear. Maureen and the victim did not know each other and did not appear to have much interaction before the knife, they said. Speaking to CTV News a few days after he was attacked, the victim said through a translator that the video made him realize that his mind had ruled out some of what had happened. He said he remembered lining up and someone walking next to him. He remembered that he had fallen. The victim said that the attack made him fear for his life and that he felt anxious only when he was out. “He feels that someone will attack him in the back. He feels insecure wherever he goes,” said the translator.
