Manesh Gill, 39, posed as “Mike” in the dating app, where he arranged to meet the victim at a hotel in Stirling in December 2018. He dragged her back to his room, telling her that the public toilets were out of order. They drank a drink before the woman lost consciousness, the jurors heard. Gill then attacked his victim while he was unable to control her movements or give his consent. He was sentenced to Edinburgh High Court on Wednesday after jury found him guilty of rape. The Edinburgh-based doctor described himself as a “responsible doctor” but “the truth was very different”, said Scottish High Court sex offender Fraser Gibson. “Manesh Gill abused a young woman’s trust in the most heinous way,” Gibson added. “His criminal behavior has ended with today’s sentence.” The victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was praised for her tremendous bravery, courage and determination to bring Gill to justice. It was also added to the Sex Offenders Register. Speaking after the sentence was handed down, Detective Inspector Forbes Wilson, of the Scottish Police Public Protection Unit, said: “Gill’s conviction and conviction sends a clear message to anyone found guilty of sexual offenses that they will be brought to justice. “Gill now has to face the consequences of his horrific behavior. “The victim showed tremendous courage when he came forward and told his story and I would like to thank her for her help during our investigation. I hope that today’s result will give it some form of closure. “We remain committed to dealing with sexual abuse, we have specially trained officers and we work with partners to provide support to victims. “I will encourage anyone to report sexual abuse in any form, as all allegations will be thoroughly investigated.”
