(File photo.) The Basilica and some of its surrounding buildings, including St. John’s College. Bonaventure, have been purchased by a joint bid committee and reveal some of their future construction plans. It was revealed that the bidding committee was successful in its bid to buy the structures earlier this week, priced somewhere north of $ 3 million. The chairman of the board of St. Bons and committee member Rob Blackie says he is happy the team bought the buildings. Their goal is to preserve the buildings, but as Blackie explains, they also plan to improve the purpose for which the buildings are used. He says the Basilica will be home to two local parishes as places of worship. Also, people can expect to see the historic church open more – allowing groups like Shalloway to use the space. For St. Bons, Blackie says there are great opportunities to improve infrastructure there for things like sports and public music venues.
