Ballot boxes are closed in Nevada, where former state attorney general Adam Laxalt and seven opponents are running for the Republican Senate in the primary general election battlefield state. The winner of Tuesday’s Republican qualifier will face Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto for the first time in November, a former state attorney general whom Republicans consider vulnerable. The race is one of the few in the whole country that will probably decide whether the GOP wins the Senate majority again in the by-elections. Laxalt enjoys the backing of former President Donald Trump, as well as longtime Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell and the high-profile foreign club Club for Growth. Trump, McConnell and the Growth Club were often at odds this round in other high-profile Republican primary. Two other stars on the right – Florida Gov. Ron DeSadis and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz – have traveled to Nevada in recent weeks to campaign with Laxalt.
