Early Tuesday afternoon, the strongest and most stable rainstorm moved west of Edmonton and will remain in western Alberta for the rest of the day and tonight. Thus, the constant rain is done for the afternoon. However, late in the afternoon and early this afternoon there will be more rain and possibly thunderstorms in the city and surrounding areas. It just won’t be as stable from a downpour as the one that came early Tuesday and probably won’t cover the whole area. That could change late this afternoon, during the night and early Wednesday, as some more steady (but lighter) rain is moving in the Edmonton area moving from north to south. Further rainfall of five to 15 mm is possible by noon on Wednesday. A low-pressure surface and upper surface area anchored above southern Alberta rotates counterclockwise and pushes rain from NE to SW. So if you look at the radar, all this heavy rain west of Edmonton is actually moving away from the city, not towards it. It is raining north and northeast of the city that will move until late Tuesday / early Wednesday. This counterclockwise rotation around the low-pressure stacked area also pushes heavy rain to the foothills and mountains where Rainfall Warnings apply for much of western and southwestern AB with 100 to 150 mm of total rainfall likely by noon Wednesday.
