The child was reportedly in the hospital for hernia surgery at the time of the incident, according to Randy Sorels, the family’s personal injury lawyer. He told Fox4 that part of the process involved working near the child’s groin. The lawyer claimed that the surgeon “cut the wrong part of the anatomy”. “We believe the surgeon accidentally cut the spermatic cord, one of the tubes that carries the reproductive sperm into it. “It could affect this young man for the rest of his life,” Sorrels told the television station. Vasectomies are generally sought after by men as a form of birth control. Surgeries are generally safe outpatient surgeries and are relatively inexpensive and extremely effective in preventing pregnancy. Although a permanent procedure, many vascular resections can be reversed and, in some very rare cases, the vascular pores can actually regrow together. The surgeon who operated on the boy has no history of negligence and otherwise has never received negative reports about his work. Mistakes like the one made in infancy are generally very rare due to the safety precautions that are incorporated into the surgical procedure. “It’s not a common mistake at all,” Sorrels said. “Before a doctor cuts or cuts any part of the anatomy, he is supposed to positively determine what that anatomy is and then cut it. Here, the doctor failed to pinpoint the anatomy that needed to be cut. Unfortunately, he cut off his vas deferens. “This was not discovered until he was sent for pathology.” The lawyer said that his and his family’s main concern is the boy’s health. They are considering options to reverse the procedure, but the lawyer noted that this would require the boy to undergo further surgery. “The biggest concern of the family is how this can affect their child physically, in their ability to have children in the future and emotionally,” Sorels said. “[Along with] you have to explain this to a potential partner with whom you will have children “. Mr Sorrels fears the four-year-old will spend the rest of his life having fertility problems. The Texas Children’s Hospital said in a statement that it could not comment on the incident. “The top priority of Texas Children’s Hospital is the health and well-being of our patient,” he said. “Due to patients’ privacy requirements, we can not comment.”
