Bethesda Space Adventure showed off its first game during the Xbox and Bethesda showcase this week and players have made many comparisons to No Man’s Sky. A remarkable feature of this game was the ability to fly ships directly from space on a planet without cargo, an impressive feat given the huge scale of the game’s universe. RELATED: Bethesda reveals almost 15 minutes of Starfield play Howard recalled that the developers tried a similar feature for Starfield, but ended up on the cutting board floor because the element “was not so important to the player” compared to the time it would take to develop it. “We decided early in the project that the surface is a reality and then when you are in space, it is another reality.” Compared to No Man’s Sky, Starfield focuses on traditional worlds and the narration of a Bethesda role-playing game in space exploration, so Howard’s argument for complexity probably holds water. So while the Xbox Series X | S has an incredibly fast solid state drive in it, the size of the game means that the team would prefer to focus their efforts on many other parts of the game. And speaking further on his scale, Howard also shared that Starfield would be the largest of Bethesda’s games to date. “It has more shipments, so it could be 20% more than our previous ones.” Many of these missions are likely to take place in or around New Atlantis, the largest city Bethesda has ever built and one of the four major cities that players will explore throughout history. While players will have a lot to do with the game’s 1,000 planets, Starfield will not be without handmade content, and Howard has made it clear that players can skip the procedural space flights and get straight to the point. Howard said the game is still in pre-production and added that Fallout 5 would be next on the docket after another trip to Tamriel. With these two games in the works, the main RPG team at Bethesda will be working hard for decades to come.
