UPDATE: 9:30 a.m. Kelowna Airport is operating normally after the flood from Mill Creek spilled into the southwest corner of the long-haul parking lot. According to airport manager Shayne Dyrdal, about 20 cars were hit by the flood and the airport is currently in the process of transporting these cars to the B overflow parking lot. “We are in the process of taking action to mitigate the floods in the area, so we are doing everything we can to mitigate the impact on passengers and customers,” Dyrdal said. He says if people come to the airport and want to park in the long-term parking lot, they will be transported to a safer location. YLW does not expect the current weather system to cause flight delays or cancellations. ORIGINAL: 9:06 a.m. Heavy rains in the last 24 hours have caused flooding in many areas around the city, including Kelowna Airport. A news tip sent to Castanet Media shows that the long-distance car park has been flooded, with the water level rising more than halfway after a series of car tires. Several flights have been delayed, but for now, there are no reports of flight cancellations, but YLW encourages passengers to arrive at least two hours earlier for their flight. Castanet contacted Kelowna Airport for comment. History to follow.
