Photo: RCMP The Kelowna RCMP seeks to reunite the World War I Canadian Discharge Certificate and the Canadian Army World War II medals with their rightful holders. Deacon John Milliman Wintermute’s Certificate of Exemption served in both England and France and was fired on May 17, 1919, and the medals were completed in the wrong hands. The Mounties tell Castanet that they discovered the items on January 7, 2022 and confirmed that it was not in the possession of the rightful owner. The medals have been recognized as World War II medals without any information on who they were awarded to. The Kelowna RCMP initially approached the Okanagan Military Museum to assist other Canadian military partners with the hope of locating and reuniting these important historical and emotional artifacts with their rightful owners. “As a senior active member of the Canadian Armed Forces, it is important to me personally that these items of final sacrifice be returned to the rightful heirs of those who served with honor,” said RCMP Dean Ammo Vecchio. If anyone has any information on these items, please contact Kelowna RCMP at (250) 762-3300.
