The statements, which were shown on video by the select committee investigating the 2021 Capitol Uprising during a hearing Monday, included criticism of former New York mayor and Trump adviser by former Trump campaign director Bill Stephen and former campaign adviser Jason Miller. Miller appeared on tape to answer a committee question about whether anyone on the campaign team who spoke with Trump drank too much that night. He replied, citing Giuliani. “I’m disgusted and outraged by the true lies of Jason Miller and Bill Stepien,” Giuliani wrote on Twitter, mistyping the former campaign manager’s last name. “I was upset that they were not prepared for the mass deception (as were other lawyers around the President). I DENIED any alcohol that night. “My favorite drink .. Diet Pepsi”, wrote Giuliani on Twitter. “Is it the false testimony from Miller and Steppien because I called them? Are they being paid to lie? ” added in next tweet. In his testimony, Stepien described himself as a member of a “normal group” in Trump’s campaign that acknowledged that the Republican had lost the presidential election based on available data. “There were two groups; we call them my team and Rudy’s team. “I did not mind being a member of Team Normal,” the former campaign manager, who was unable to appear in person after his wife’s birth on Monday, told the videotape. “I did not think what was happening was necessarily honest or professional at the time,” he said of the other team. Miller testified that he had given advice not to declare victory prematurely during the vote count. “There were suggestions from, I think it was Mayor Giuliani, that we should go and declare victory and say that we had won it completely,” Miller said. “I remember saying that… we should not go and declare victory until we better understand the numbers.” He also said he believed Giuliani appeared to be drunk on election night while talking to White House and campaign officials. “I think the mayor was definitely drunk, but I do not know his level of intoxication when he spoke to the president, for example,” Miller said. Giuliani made headlines in the months following the election, repeatedly promoting false theories to reverse Trump’s election defeat. The Jan. 6 panel cites a narrative that claims Trump’s false election statements eventually led to a January 6 attack by a mob of supporters on the Capitol. Lawmakers at the time were in the process of certifying the election results.
