The update helps with a long-standing issue of WhatsApp, which is that it has historically been difficult to transfer conversations between the two mobile operating systems. It’s easy to transfer conversations from one iOS device to another or from an Android device to another, but generally not between two different operating systems. The transfer process only works on a new iPhone or with a factory reset and uses Apple’s existing Move to iOS app for Android (which already helps move contacts, calendar entries, SMS messages and more). When setting up iPhone, select the “Move data from Android” option, then follow the steps in the Android application. Once iPhone is fully configured, open WhatsApp and log in using the same phone number. Pre-existing Android chat history should be displayed. To start the transfer, you must be running Android 5 or later on your Android device and iOS 15.5 on your iPhone. Unfortunately, if you already have a pre-existing iOS chat history, then the imported Android history will replace it.
